Dept.:  Maintenance Department

 

Position:  HVAC Technician

 

Classification: Classified

 

Qualifications:        High school diploma or equivalent; five years of experience directly related to HVAC & refrigeration system installation and repair.

 

Preferred Qualifications:  Associate Degree or technical school training in HVAC Systems

 

Term of Employment:   12 Months, Full-Time

Salary/Grade: NC08 ($2,982 - $5,754)

Location: Maintenance Department

 

Reports To:  Director of Maintenance

 

POSITION PURPOSE

Lead work associated with heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems  Performs master craftsman level work associated with refrigeration equipment, including coolers, freezers, and related systems.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS  

 

 

 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS  Evening and weekend requirements for on-call emergencies may occur.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:    

 

  1. Performs experienced or master craftsman level work associated with HVAC systems, materials, equipment and fixtures. 
  2. Responds to assigned work orders relating to HVAC; troubleshoots appropriate corrective measures and performs work to provide a solution.
  3. Replaces faulty or defective HVAC equipment and systems. 
  4. Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports, as needed. 
  5. Adheres to laws, regulations and requirements set forth in the WCPSS Safety procedures/policies. 
  6. Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining a safe work environment. 
  7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  

 

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT 

 

Must be able to use a variety of equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc.  Must be able to communicate effectively.  The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment. Continually requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to seventy-five pounds.  Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for heavy work.   

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT  

 

Must be able to work in an indoor and outdoor environment and come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors, external agencies.  Frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather conditions.
